Playing on live casino can initially be overwhelming, so we have provided you with this guide that outlines what you need to know to take your seat at any virtual table confidently.
We will focus on some of the basics of Live Roulette, Live Blackjack, Live Casino Hold’em Poker and Live Baccarat, to give you a place to start.
The word ‘roulette’, means ‘little wheel’ in French, and the game revolves around the luck of the spinning wheel.
The wheel consists of 37 different slots, numbered 0 to 36. Zero is a green slot, and the rest of the numbers are evenly split between red and black. Once bets are placed, the wheel will spin, and the croupier (live dealer) will place a little white ball in the wheel.
When the wheel stops the slot that holds the white ball is the winning number/colour for that round and winnings and losses will be calculated.
Aside from the wheel, there is a big green table marked with various grids, names and phrases. The numbers on the grid towards the middle of the table represent the numbers on the wheel, whereas some of the other phrased blocks represent other winning combinations possible.
Prior to the wheel spin, you take your tokens and place your bets on the numbers or combinations that you predict will win. Should you guess correctly, you will win. If not, you will lose all the money you bet.
You can bet on as many numbers and combos as you want to. The more you spread out your bankroll, the higher the odds of winning, but your actual win return will be marginal. Selecting only one position and getting it right could win you up to 36x your bet back!
There are two types of bets in roulette:
● Inside Bet: Includes betting on the numbers grid. The odds of winning are lower, but the returns are higher.
● Outside Bets: Include all other combinations, like betting on even or odd numbers; betting on black or red; betting on the 1st 12 numbers, 2nd 12 numbers, or last 12 numbers, etc. The odds of winning are far higher here, but the returns are much lower than inside bets.
Blackjack is a really easy card game to play. What you need to master is the art of calculated guessing and strategic betting.
General Objective and Rules
This is a game of calculating the values of cards dealt to you. The objective is to get closer to the value of 21 than the live dealer does.
All numbered cards use their face values of 2 to 10, whereas the pictured cards (J, Q, and K) are valued at 10 each. The ace carries two optional values of either 1 or 11.
At the start of the game, you will be dealt two cards. You will need to accumulate values of cards to reach a total of 21 by asking the dealer to ‘hit’ you. Be careful though, as one too many cards could take you over 21, in which case you are ‘bust’ and will lose your wager.
If you’re happy with your hand, you can choose to ‘stand’, handing the chance to play to the dealer. Two cards that amount to 21 make a blackjack, and that’s the highest hand in this game.
If you are dealt a double of any value, you can split your hand to double your chances of winning the round.
The dealer cannot stand on a hand less than 17 and must automatically stand on a hand between 17 and 21.
Bets are placed before the cards are drawn. The dealer will match your bet. A winning hand will win you back your bet and the dealer’s bet. A blackjack win will win you an additional half of your bet back on top of the standard stake, unless, of course, the dealer has one too.
You can also increase your wager before each hit, forcing the dealer to meet your stake.
Live Casino Hold’em
The most popular form of live poker is Casino Hold’em, which is a variation of traditional Texas Hold’em. Instead of playing against other players, you play against the dealer directly, and an unlimited number of players can sit at the table to compete.
You will need to place an ante bet to qualify to play. Once this is done, you will be dealt two cards, which you must use in conjunction with the three cards on the table to make the best possible poker hand. Depending on your hand you can opt to either fold (exit the round and lose the bet) or call (raise the bet). Should you call, a further two cards will be dealt to the table to add to the combination possibilities. Highest hand wins.
Bets are placed at the beginning (ante bet) after the third table card is dealt and at the call.
Please note that this game is not recommended for beginners. You need to have a working knowledge of all of the standard poker hands before you play, as well as a little wisdom when betting.
Baccarat is a game of pure luck, but a good understanding of the rules is vital to being successful and winning. Instead of trying to get close to a value of 21, like in blackjack, in baccarat you will need to get closest to 9 to win.
Cards 2-9 carry their face values, whereas an ace is worth 1, and 10, jack, queen and king are each worth zero. When adding the value of the cards, you will need to bear in mind that the leftmost digit falls away. So, if you have a value of 14, it is counted as only 4.
Baccarat is played between only two players. One is the bank and the other the player. There are however two variations of the game:
● Punto Banco – Here, the dealer is the bank, and plays directly against you.
● Chemin de Fer (Chemmy) – Played amongst the seated players, where the dealer is merely an overseer.
You are dealt two cards. These two cards will determine whether a further 3rd card must be dealt. If the player's hand consists of a value of 8 or 9, the hand is then called a ‘natural’, and she will not be dealt an extra card. The rules of how cards will be dealt hereafter depend largely on the variation of the game selected.
The betting in this game differs vastly from other table games, as you need not bet in your favour. You can bet in the following ways:
● In your favour
● In the bank’s favour
● In favour of a tie between you and the bank
Please be aware that although the baseline rules for baccarat are quite simple, good knowledge of the rules, basic gameplay and valuable strategies will stand you in good stead to win. Falling short in any of the aforementioned areas will see you losing a lot of money.
